Antique Karagashli rugs were woven in the Kuba district in the eastern Caucasus, west of the Caspian Sea. They are among the most prized of east Caucasian rugs, especially the examples with light blue field. This example features five medallions on the light blue field which is framed by a series of borders including a pale yellow Leaf and Chalice major border.
Good general condition with thin pile and minor restoration. The selvedges have been rewrapped and the end guard borders have been rewoven.
This rug is published in our advertisement in the September / October 2026 issue of The Magazine Antiques.
