Nationally regarded as dealers and scholars in the field of 19th century Persian carpets, Boston,MA area based Douglas Stock Gallery owners Helen and Douglas Stock are members of the Antiques Dealers’ Association of America (ADA). Helen and Douglas have authored numerous articles on antique rugs for magazines and trade publications and have spoken at The Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. on three occasions. While they deal in a wide range of antique rugs and carpets, Helen and Douglas are best known for specializing in antique Heriz/Serapi carpets; antique Fereghan Sarouk and Mohtashem Kashan carpets; and antique Bidjar carpets.

Douglas Stock originally planned on being a college professor and was awarded a Philip Francis du Pont Fellowship in philosophy at The University of Virginia. After completing eight courses toward his Ph.D., Douglas left the program to pursue other interests, eventually transitioning from being a collector of Oriental rugs into a dealer specializing in antique rugs. A four sport high school athlete, Douglas received a B.A. in philosophy from Gordon College, where he played Varsity Ice Hockey and J.V. Soccer. Douglas also served as the student representative to the Academic Affairs Core Curriculum Committee.

Douglas serves as chairman of the Antique Carpets Vetting Committee for The Winter Antiques Show in New York City. He has served on the board of both the Art & Antique Dealers League Of America and the ADA. In addition to his interest in antiques and music, Douglas enjoys serving as a mentor for kids in their academic and athletic pursuits and has served as a coach for Wellesley, MA Senior League baseball.

Helen Stock is widely admired for her intellect and gentle temperament. Helen has an exceptional eye for both antique and contemporary Oriental rugs and relates exceedingly well with clients. She is an outstanding researcher and writer. Helen’s extraordinary eye has led to the selection of many of the finest rugs we have ever handled. Helen oversees the restoration of antique rugs for both the gallery inventory and work done for clients. Helen received a B.A. in English and Political Science from Boston College. A gifted swimmer, Helen was recognized as the female scholar-athlete in her high school graduating class. Helen was then a four year member of the Varsity Swim team at Boston College and also lettered in Sailing. After graduation from BC, Helen did considerable graduate level coursework in business at the Harvard University Extension School.

Helen also has her own custom floral design business, Helen Stock Designs, where she does floral arrangements, planters and container gardens for individuals and events. Helen’s floral designs have been exhibited four times at Art In Bloom at The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, representing The Country Garden Club of Weston, Massachusetts, of which she served as president during the club’s 50th anniversary year.
