8’1″ x 10’6″ Antique Heriz Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1910
This distinctive antique Heriz carpet has some of the aesthetic feel of the earlier Bakshaish carpets from the Heriz district in northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan province. The terra cotta color field is decorated with stylized leaves, palmettes and flowers with very rectilinear articulation of the motifs. A navy blue border with leaves and flowerheads frames the field.
Antique Heriz carpets with all-over designs, especially those with excellent use of open space as is seen in this carpet, are less common than central medallion design carpets.
The geometry of this carpet make it well suited for traditional or modern interiors.
