4’5″x 6’7″ A World Class Antique Fereghan Sarouk Rug, Flowers and Architecture, Central Persia, Circa 1880
An important antique Fereghan Sarouk rug. Woven in central Persia’s Sultanabad province, circa 1880, this rug features a complex, well drawn design of flowers and architectural motifs. It could be interpreted as a Tree Of Life design.
The navy blue field is decorated with what is either a flowering tree or a large flower. Columns that appear to be wrapped with a vine add an architectural element. A colorful border with green, light blue, yellow, camel, coral and ivory on an abrashed (variegated) red ground frames the field.
Very finely woven, this rug is also in exceptional condition. We consider it to be a world class example of the Fereghan Sarouk rug type.
