4’7″ x 7′ Antique Bidjar Rug, Quatrefoil / Lattice Design, Kurdistan Province, Northwest Persia, Circa 1910

A distinctive antique Bidjar rug from Kurdistan in northwest Persia. The navy blue field is decorated with a design of flowers, palmettes and vinery. The vines form a Quatrefoil design with a Lattice sort of feel to it. A wide, coral color border with large green leaves that alternate with large sky blue and yellow leaves frames the field. Another nice feature is the speckled or checker board effect in some of the motifs, where two colors are alternated within a motif. This rug has a cheerful, wide ranging palette and is densely woven and heavy, classic Bidjar characteristics.
