4.9 x 6.9 Antique Senneh Rug, Open Field Design, Northwest Persia, Circa 1890
An antique Senneh rug from Kurdistan province in northwest Persia. The abrashed (variegated) denim blue field contains an ivory medallion decorated with the classical Herati design. Salmon colors, Herati design corner spandrels and a mid blue, Turtle design border frame the field.
This antique Senneh rug had been in the collection of the Amherst College art museum and retains a label on the reverse. We sold it about 20 years ago and it was subsequently on the cover of an issue of Renovation Style magazine in the foyer of the home of the family who purchased the rug from us.
