A central Persian Kashan rug of the type often referred to as Mohtasham Kashan rugs, circa 1910.

The brick red field is decorated with a directional design with various shrubs and flowers. A navy blue border with palmettes, flowers and Boteh frames the field. In remarkable condition and with a warm, varied palette. This rug is also slightly larger than typical  Mohtasham Kashan rugs of the so-called “Dozar” size, which tends to be closer to 4’6″ wide, rather than 4’10” and shorter than 7 feet, whereas this rug is 7’2″.

From an exceptional New York family collection.
