4.11 x 8.5 Antique Bidjar Rug, Open Field Design, Northwest Persia, Kurdistan Province, Circa 1875

Weavers in the Bidjar village area, located in Kurdistan province in northwest Persia, produced mostly pile rugs and room size carpets, but also produced some flat woven “kilim” rugs. This pile rug features a design associated with kilim weavings, with an asymmetrical, navy blue medallion with green and blue pendants floating on an abrashed (variegated) red, open field. Navy corner spandrels and a brown border of early format frame the field.
