3.5 x 10.4 Antique Hamadan Rug, West Persia, Circa 1890
An antique Persian runner, probably woven in one of the villages in west Persia’s Hamadan province but seemingly much earlier than the vast majority of rugs woven in this region.
The salmon color field is decorated with a series of latch hook medallions in shades of navy blue, sky blue, green, brick red, ivory and pumpkin. A navy blue and brick red Reciprocal Trefoil border plus four other borders, three of them in a scrolling vine and flowerhead style, frame the field.
Ivory corner spandrels decorated with geometric motifs and stylized flowers appear at each end of the field.
