Antique Northwest Persian Bag Face, Possibly Shah Savan or Kurdish, Circa 1880- Douglas Stock Gallery Antique Oriental Rug Research Archives
This bag face was probably woven in northwest Persia, either in Kurdistan or Azerbaijan and probably by a member of either the Shah Savan or Kurdish tribes. The navy blue field is decorated with a lattice format with polychromatic checkerboard motifs along the edge of the field. An ivory “Bird” style border with a red interior guard border and an aubergine exterior guard border frame the field. The bag face retains some of the kilim (flat woven) end finish at the top, as well as the kilim closure tabs at the bottom.
An outstanding example.
