PAIR of approximately 3’5″ x 12′ Antique Serab Runners, Northwest Persia, Circa 1890
A pair of antique Serab runners from northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan province. The color arrangement in the respective medallions from one runner to the other differs somewhat and one runner has six medallions where the other has seven. Both runners have a camel color field with a series of medallions that is framed by an ivory interior border with a Reciprocal Trefoil design outer border and plain, camel color banding on the outside.
Both runners have some restoration and the over-all condition of one is somewhat better than the other, hence the difference in price.
Intact pairs of rugs of virtually any size are uncommon and these could be used in a variety of ways, including at each end of a large room or in a long hallway.
These are technically “village” rugs without a specific tribal attribution. We include them on our “Tribal Rugs” page due to the geometric aesthetic.
