9’8″ x 13’2″ Contemporary Hand Woven Heriz Carpet, Probably Natural Dyes
This is a genuine Persian Heriz carpet from a production that no longer exists. It is done in the style of an antique Heriz carpet, particularly with the spacious drawing characteristic of 19th century Heriz carpets which are often referred to colloquially as antique “Serapi” carpets.
The deep salmon color field contains a navy blue medallion with sky blue pendants. Ivory corner spandrels and a navy blue “Turtle” design border with light blue and light green guard borders frames the field. This carpet appears to utilize natural dyes.
Some contemporary hand woven carpets are distressed or heavily antique washed to make them look old and that has not been done to this carpet. While the colors and design are true to an antique Heriz, the carpet appears “new”, with thick, high quality wool and saturated colors.
This carpet is an excellent opportunity to acquire a carpet in an “earlier” style, in great condition and with beautiful colors at a fraction of what the antique version would cost.
