The term “Kolyai” appears to refer to both a Kurdish tribal group who lived in Kermanshah province in western Persia, as well as a village by the same name. In the 19th century, it seems to have applied to both nomadic and sedentary people settled in villages.
The cheerful colors and geometric design of this rug suggest a probable Kolyai attribution.
The whimsical stylized flowers in the mid blue medallions and the green border are particularly beautiful features.
