3′ X 4′ Antique Karaja Rug With Distinctive Design, Heriz District, Northwest Persia, Circa 1915
This small antique Karaja rug from the Heriz district in northwest Persia is distinctive in two ways. It is larger than typical “mats”, which usually measure about 2 feet by 3 feet and it is smaller than more standard rugs the next size up, which tend to be well in excess of 3 feet wide and closer to 5 feet in length. Additionally, the diagonally striped major border, which has a beautiful range of colors, is quite uncommon.
The field design is fairly standard, with three medallions on a navy blue field but it is enhanced by having a Reciprocal Trefoil interior guard border.
A charming and distinctive rug in our entry level price range for antique rugs.
