5’2″ x 6’3″ Antique Heriz “Serapi” Rug, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900
Small antique Heriz rugs of the age and type where they are frequently referred to colloquially as antique “Serapi” rugs are less common than their room size carpet counterparts. This rug features a navy blue medallion on a brick red field that is decorated with stylized scrolling vines with flowers. Ivory corner spandrels with green palmettes and a brick red “Turtle” design border with sky blue guard borders frame the field.
This rug is in outstanding general condition for the age and type, with very minor loss at the end guard borders.
