8.9 x 11.9 Antique Bidjar Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1915

This is a highly recognizable pattern in antique Bidjar carpets but it is not seen all that frequently. Typically, examples from this group have navy blue field but occasionally an example with a red field is seen. Unlike certain designs, such as the “Harshang”, “Afghan” or “Herati” patterns, as far as I know there is not distinct name for this pattern.

This example is a bit unusual in seeming to have slightly more rectilinear articulation of the motifs than is typical.

The weave is dense and this should be a very durable carpet, given proper care.
