9’6″ x 13′ Antique Heriz “Serapi” Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900
A well drawn and beautifully colored antique Heriz carpet of the age and caliber where carpets from the Heriz district in northwest Persia are often colloquially referred to as antique “Serapi carpets”.
This carpet features a navy medallion with an ivory center and light blue highlights on a salmon field. Ivory corner spandrels with mid blue leaves and a navy blue “Turtle” design border frame the field.
In very good general condition, there is minor loss at the ends, where the small, exterior guard border is missing. It is retained on the sides. This is very typical for antique Heriz carpets and we could have it expertly restored at extra cost at the buyer’s option.
Antique carpets of this style, especially with this high level of color quality, are the quintessential choice for many “period” style rooms and also comport well in modern settings.
