9.5 x 13.7 Antique Heriz Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1920

A distinctive antique Heriz carpet from northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan province. The brick red field is decorated with a navy blue, coral, yellow and green medallion with navy blue pedants. Stylized leaves also decorate the field. Yellow corner spandrels with coral insets and a navy blue “Turtle” design border frame the field.

This carpet is not quite as old or open in design as the antique Heriz carpets often referred to colloquially as antique “Serapi” carpets (these would typically be 20  to 40 years older) but it is getting close and at a much lower price.

The quintessential style of carpet for period American rooms, as well as modern interiors.
