4.5 x 6.4 Antique Bidjar Rug, Northwest Persia, Circa 1910

Densely woven with saturated colors and a dramatic medallion and corner spandrel combination, this antique Bidjar rug from northwest Persia’s Kurdistan province would be an excellent choice for a foyer or other space where the combination of durability and flair can be shown well.

The navy blue field is decorated with the classical Herati design around a sky blue and brick red medallion. Mid blue corner spandrels with red outlining and coral, sky blue and ecru highlights frame the field. The border system is very well done and beautifully colored, with a red major border with scrolling vines and flowers between  mid blue minor borders.

A very distinctive interpretation of a primary “Herati” format.
