3.2 x 7.7 Antique Serab Rug, Northwest Persia, Possibly Dated Circa 1933
This antique Serab rug is distinctive and uncommonly beautiful with the charming stylized flowers that decorate the field. It has what appears to be a date that might translate to circa 1933. In the absence of a date, with the wool foundation and the aubergine and green Reciprocal border, I would have thought it older and dates can be difficult to read and also not always reliable.
The color range and quality is outstanding and it departs from more standard Serab weavings in the individualistic composition of the design.
