10’6″ x 12’11” Antique Sultanabad Carpet, Probably Ziegler & Co., Central Persia, Circa 1890

A well drawn and beautifully colored antique Sultanabad carpet, probably commissioned by the Anglo-Swiss firm Ziegler & Co.. For a village carpet from the Sultanabad region in central Persia, this carpet reflects a considerable degree of precision, with the various flowers on the denim blue field aligned well and the brick red border flowing around the corners in a more advanced way than many carpets from this region do. This suggests it was the work of a more organized workshop, probably Ziegler & Co., especially given the classic coloration.
