4.6 x 5.7 Antique Heriz Serapi Rug, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900
Small antique Heriz rugs of this area, circa 1900, are frequently referred to colloquially as antique “Serapi” rugs. They are relatively uncommon compared to their room size counterparts. This piece features an abrashed (variegated) navy blue field decorated with large leaves and flowerheads, complemented by smaller ancillary flowerheads. A bric red “Turtle” border with camel color guard borders frames the field. The camel color central medallion is a beautiful feature and gives the rug a strong focal point.
