4.10 x 10.8 Antique Kurdish Rug, Probably Quchan Type, Khorasson Province, Northeast Persia, Circa 1895
Almost certainly a Kurdish rug, the precise area in which it was woven is a bit more difficult to pinpoint. It was likely woven by the Kurdish people living in the Quchan area in northeast Persia’s Khorasson province but there are aspects that suggest it could have been woven in the Souj Bulagh area in northwest Persia or even in eastern Turkey.
Coarsely woven with long, shaggy pile in a wide ranging palette, it is a true tribal rug. It would be well suited for a variety of interior design themes, including modern interiors due to the somewhat abstract geometric form.
