6 x 12.7 Antique Kilim Carpet, Possibly Veramin Area, North Persia, Circa 1900

I wish I had more expertise regarding kilim (flat woven) rugs. Some, such as QashQa’i kilims from southwest Persia, are a bit easier for me to identify. My sense regarding this piece is that it was possibly woven in the Veramin area in north Persia. The dense weave seems to support this and it does not obviously seem to be another type, at least to me. Another knowledgeable dealer attributes a similar piece to Veramin, which makes me feel a bit better about the attribution.

It features great graphics, for which good kilims are famous; and it would seem to be sturdier than many kilims, making it somewhat more practical for floor use. The green is a particularly pretty color.

Since we do not have a page dedicated to Veramin weavings in our archives section, we are placing this kilim on the Bidjar page, as both areas are located in north Persia (northwest for Bidjar and north central for Veramin) and have many Kurdish weavers.
