2.2 x 2.11 Antique Fereghan Sarouk Mat (Small Rug), Central Persia, Circa 1900
Very small Persian rugs; i.e., those measuring approximately 2 feet by 3 feet, are often referred to as “mats” or “poshtis”. This finely woven Fereghan Sarouk mat was made in central Persia’s Sultanabad province and features an uncommon abrashed (variegated) denim blue field. The weaver utilized open space between the floral designs well and the central flowerhead is a beautiful feature.
