4’8″ x 7′ Antique Bidjar Rug, Quatrefoil Design, Kurdistan Province, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900

A densely woven antique Bidjar rug with a version of the Quatrefoil design on a navy blue field. A charming, mid blue border with stylized flowers frames the field. The green and yellow highlights add extra beauty to an already very colorful rug. While this densely woven Bidjar rug is clearly a village weaving rather than a nomadic rug, it is almost certainly of Kurdish origin and thus we consider it to be a “tribal”rug, feeling that limiting that definition to nomadic weavings does not fairly represent the range of rugs, carpets and bags various tribal groups produced.
