9.8 x 13.2 New Persian Heriz “Serapi” Style Carpet

A contemporary hand woven Heriz carpet with a beautiful palette, including a navy medallion with green highlights on a salmon color field that is framed by ivory corner spandrels and a navy blue “Turtle” design border.

This carpet is from a production that I believe no longer exists and, to the best of my knowledge, it utilizes natural dyes.

The drawing of the carpet is done in the more spacious style seen in late 19th century Heriz carpets that are often colloquially referred to as antique “Serapi” carpets. This carpet presents an opportunity to get a well drawn and beautifully colored example in an earlier style that is new and should be very durable and a fraction of the price of an antique version.

Carpets of this type; that is, the high quality, natural dye examples that were woven in Persia and Turkey for a twenty to thirty year period, are disappearing from the market, with many if not most of the productions no longer running.
