9.4 x 12.5 Antique Heriz Serapi Carpet, Split Arabesque Design, Northwest Persia, Circa 1905

This finely woven antique Heriz carpet, of the type often referred to as antique “Serapi” carpets, appears to have been woven in the first decade of the 20th century. It features a version of the famous Split arabesque pattern, rarely seen in antique Heriz weavings and made even more distinctive by being on a navy, rather than red, field.

A beautifully articulated brick red border with Turtle palmettes, leaves and flowers frames the field.
