9.11 x 13.3 Antique Heriz Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1925
A distinctive antique Heriz carpet from northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan province. The deep salmon color field is decorated with large leaves, some of which have a speckled or checkerboard effect where the weaver alternated the colors within the leaves. Ancillary stylized flowers also decorate the field. The border system is very well articulated and beautifully colored, with yellow scrolling vine and flower guard borders flanking a a navy blue major border with leaves, palmettes and small flowers.
