7.7 x 10.10 Antique Bakhtiari Carpet, South Persia, Circa 1895
Woven by the Bakhtiari tribe in south Persia, this small room size carpet features the saturated coloration and affinity for garden panel designs. This particular carpet has a wide ranging palette, with yellow, navy blue, ivory, brick red, aubergine, green, mid blue and brown. The articulation of the motifs has a somewhat archaic character to it. Combined with the wool warps (vertical foundation threads) instead of cotton warps, these aspects suggest this example is older than many, probably dating to the last decade or so of the 19th century.
This carpet would go well in a modern interior or a traditional home.
