4.6 x 6.9 Antique Senneh Rug, Open Field design, Northwest Persia, Kurdistan Province, Circa 1890

Antique Senneh rugs were woven in northwest Persia’s Kurdistan province. Although they were produced near Bidjar, and often have a similar aesthetic character, as a textile they are completely different. Senneh rugs feature a single knotted construction, with both halfs of the knots on a flat plane and with a heavy twist to the wool; whereas Bidjar rugs are double knotted, with one half of an individual knot located directly over the other half, making for a much heavier textile.

This Senneh is remarkably artistic, with a sky blue medallion with motifs floating on it and framed by a plain ivory band. The abrashed navy field is framed by ivory and salmon spandrels and a sky blue border.

True textile art for a wall or floor.
