3.1 x 15.7 Mid 19th Century Northwest Persian Runner With Shrub Design, Circa 1875 or earlier

Kurdish weavers appear to have been active in northwest Persia’s Kurdistan Province and in the Souj Bulagh area in Azerbaijan Province from the early 19th century forward, if not even earlier. This antique Northwest Persian runner probably dates to the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. It features a Shrub design on a navy field. An abrashed (variegated) terra cotta color border frames the field.

Both the weave, with a soft, pliable handle, and the archaic articulation of the motifs suggest the early dating.

This runner has significant areas of restoration and is best suited for an area with moderate traffic.
