2.1 x 3 Antique Fereghan Sarouk Mat, Central Persia, Circa 1915
This central Persian Fereghan Sarouk rug appears to be from the latter stages of production of this type of rug, just before the transition to the Mahajaran Sarouk style. Densely woven and with thick pile, the Sarouk still conveys the more rectilinear articulation of floral motifs characteristic of Fereghan Sarouk rugs from the last quarter of the 19th century. The polychromatic pendants extending vertically from the central medallion, and a style also seen in the corner spandrels, gives additional charm to this small rug.
Fine and densely woven, it should be a good choice, with proper care, for a high traffic area.
