An oversize Mahal carpet, probably commissioned by the Anglo-Swiss firm Ziegler & Co. in central Persia’s Sultanabad province, circa 1900.
The brick color field is decorated with large scale palmettes and leaves and framed by a navy blue border with large palmettes and ancillary stylized floral forms.
This type of carpet is the quintessential choice for the English Country House style.
