9 x 13 Antique Heriz Serapi Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1890
An antique Heriz carpet of the early type that are often colloquially referred to as antique “Serapi” carpets. Ivory field examples are particularly prized and this carpet features little, if any, navy blue, instead featuring a palette of ivory, brick red, sky blue, light green, brown and coral. The spacious design and rectilinear articulation of the floral motifs identifies it as a 19th century carpet.
