An over size antique Fereghan Sarouk carpet with a densely patterned all-over format on a navy blue field. A brick red border with large flowerheads, palmettes and leaves frames the field.
A classic feature in antique Fereghan and Fereghan Sarouk carpets is the light green color that tends to oxidize and corrode over time. It is a corroborating feature of the age of these carpets, generally dating them to the last quarter of the 19th century or early 20th century.
The detailed, polychromatic leaves in this carpet are well rendered and a charming feature.
