9′ x 11’4″ Antique Heriz “Serapi” Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900

To view detail photos, place cursor on image and use arrows.

This antique Heriz carpet, of the age and type frequently referred to as antique “Serapi” carpets, features a rare coral color field. The variegated corner spandrels range from a greenish yellow at one end to more of a celadon green at the other end.

A brick red medallion and whimsical floral decoration in shades of sky blue, camel, teal green and ivory decorate the field. A brick red leaf and flowerhead border frames the field.

The virtual lack of navy blue in this carpet is an uncommon feature and gives it a light, distinctive appearance.
