8 ‘x 10’9″Antique Heriz “Serapi” Carpet, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900
A densely woven antique Heriz carpet of the age and type often colloquially referred to as antique “Serapi” carpets. This example has a distinctive design, with a large ivory medallion on a navy blue field but without the typical corner spandrels. This gives the carpet a more expansive feel. The field is framed by a brick red “Turtle” design border with ivory guard borders.
The pile is generally thin and there appear to be areas of “touch-up”.
