9 x 11.3 Antique Heriz Carpet, Bid Majnun Design, Northwest Persia, Circa 1910

This carpet was woven in the Heriz district in northwest Persia, possibly in the village of Goravan. It features what is called a “Bid Majnun” design, consisting of Cpress and Willow trees on a terra cotta color field. This design is occasionally seen in antique Bakshaish carpets, also from the Heriz district. A navy blue border frames the field. This is an outstanding example from this design group.
