8 x 11.2 Antique Heriz Goravan Carpet, All-over Design, Northwest Persia, Circa 1915

Probably woven in the village of Goravan in the Heriz district in northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan province, this carpet reflects the beautiful palette and archaic drawing that antique Heriz carpets are renowned for. Goravan carpets are among the most coarsely woven carpets produced in the Heriz area, however they tend to have excellent color quality, often among the best of the various types of carpets produced in the Heriz district.

This carpet features large scale leaves, palmettes and flowerheads on a terra cotta color field that is framed by a navy blue border with scrolling vines and flowerheads.

A mid-price example, it has a very decorative appearance, well suited for a variety of interior design styles. Heriz area carpets with all-over designs are less common than their medallion counterparts.
