4.2 x 7.5 Antique Kazak Rug, Southwest Caucasus, Circa 1900

The ivory crab design border in this rug suggests it might have been woven in the Karabagh region of the south Caucasus. However, the weave, with multiple weft threads, suggests it was woven further west in the Kazak area.

The field is decorated with polychromatic diagonal stripes with pinwheel style motifs. In addition to the ivory crab design major border, an interior Reciprocal Trefoil border in red and red and an exterior Reciprocal Trefoil guard border in red and blue frame the field.
