7.6 x 10.10 Important Antique Mohtasham Kashan Carpet, Central Persia, Circa 1890
Finely woven and complex but with an subtle elegance that avoids being overly formal, this outstanding antique Kashan carpet from central Persia is of the type often referred to colloquially as “Mohtasham Kashan” carpets, after the famous workshop that produced top quality examples, very few of which were signed.
The salmon field is decorated with a design that has lattice-like elements but has ore free-flowing ancillary flower decoration than many lattice format carpets might have. There is a wide but subtle palette that decorates the deep salmon color field.
A sky blue Quatrefoil design border frames the field superbly, and also has six guard borders that give it additional sophistication.
Antique carpets of this caliber and condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially at the price we are offering this carpet at which we consider to be an excellent value.
