5.5 x 7.6 Antique Turkish Bergama or Canakkale Rug, Circa 1890
Antique Turkish rugs with this design are often attributed to Bergama in northwest Anatolia (Turkey), as well as to Canakkale, also located in northwest Turkey.
This example is distinctive in having an aubergine color field. Ancillary colors include ivory, dark brown, yellow, light blue and green.
This rug has brown weft threads (horizontal foundation threads) instead of the red wefts one might sometimes see.
Both collectible and decorative, this rug would go well in a range of settings, from a country house to a modern apartment.
