4.1 x 5.4 Antique Silk Tabriz Rug, Northwest Persia, Circa 1880
A fine antique silk Tabriz rug from the last quarter of the 19th century and woven in northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan province. The navy blue field contains a brick red medallion and is decorated with stylized flowers and leaves. The corner spandrels are decorated with the classical Herati design and a sophisticated series of borders including a light peach color major border with Cypress trees and shrubs frames the field.
A world class example.
