3.10 x 11.3 Antique Northwest Persian Runner, Probably Shah Savan, Circa 1885

This cheerful and charming antique northwest Persian runner was probably woven by a member of the Shah Savan tribal group, perhaps in the Serab area in Persian Azerbaijan province. The deep salmon color field is decorated with latch hook medallions and ancillary geometric motifs. An ivory border with stylized leaves and flowers; green and aubergine Reciprocal Trefoil guard borders; and a camel color outer band with various motifs frame the field.

A wonderful example of Persian textile art.
