10.4 x 13.6 Antique Lillihan Carpet, Central Persia, Circa 1915
Antique Lillihan carpets were woven in the same general area in central Persia where antique Sarouk and Sultanabad carpets were produced. They are a village product rather than a very formally organized city workshop and, s such, reflect a charm and individuality. This is a particularly nice example, slightly older than many, and with elegant, sweeping vines and charming flowers on a navy blue field. Navy field Lilllihan carpets are somewhat less common and often more prized than their red field counterparts.
