This antique northwest Persian carpet was woven in the Heriz district in Azerbaijan province, circa 1880. The weave alternates between the single knotted construction typical of the village of Karaja and the double knotted style favored by weavers in Heriz itself. One aspect that suggests this carpet is earlier than many of its counterparts is the aubergine shade used in the leaves toward the end of the field.

The general tonality of this carpet is beautiful, with a soft salmon field, camel and coral in the central medallion and the sky blue pendants. The quintessential type of carpet for 18th century style American interiors, this antique Heriz would be equally at home in a modern interior.

Generally very good condition with some old repairs and a worn area in the field that would benefit from restoration, which we can do for the buyer.
