1.9 x 1.8 Antique Afshar Bag Face, South Persia, Circa 1925

A moderately priced antique south Persian tribal bag face, probably woven by the Afshar tribe but possibly by the QashQa’i tribe. The navy blue field is decorated by a terra cotta color medallion with four latch hook or animal head smaller medallions in shades of terra cotta and teal. The terra cotta color major border is decorated with abstract leaves, flowers and geometric motifs. This is not a particularly early or finely woven example but it has charm. It also has a dense enough weave that it would be suitable on the floor as a small rug, a quality that many bag faces do not have.
